Use one coherent experiment to practice the decisions behind a research project. The Quant Research Project Lab includes executable Python, synthetic data, saved results and a written explanation of what the comparison supports.
It is for readers who already understand basic Python. There is no data subscription or API account to set up, and the supplied code uses the standard library.
The project in one paragraph
Generate a persistent observed state and a later noisy outcome. Fit a one-feature linear rule on early rows, compare it with constants on later rows and inspect what changes when the signal reverses. An intentionally impossible feature shows why chronological splitting alone cannot prevent leakage.
The generator's known mechanism makes diagnosis possible. It also limits the conclusion: recovering a planted synthetic signal is not evidence of a real-market opportunity.
Inspect an actual boundary
At decision 600, a one-step label from row 599 may be available under the stated timing convention. A three-step label from row 598 would not resolve until 601. Changing the target therefore changes training eligibility, even when the row order is unchanged.
This is the kind of decision the lab asks you to explain, implement and record.
What comes with the book
Source code, recorded synthetic outputs, three capstone investigations, an experiment log, an availability audit and a completed research memo. The code records runtime and artifact information so a result is traceable to a particular run.
The package is a focused learning project. It is not a production execution system, an introduction to all Python programming or a strategy offered for investment use.
